Tesco is gearing up for the busy Christmas period by recruiting 26,000 temporary employees across the UK.
The roles will support the supermarket chain during one of its most demanding seasons of the year.
Seasonal Job Opportunities
The available roles will cover a wide range of tasks, including:
- Picking items for online deliveries
- Replenishing store shelves
- Supporting existing staff in Superstores and Extra stores
Tesco is looking for people who thrive in a team environment and are willing to go the extra mile for customers.
What Tesco is Looking For
Alexandra Brown, Group People Services Director at Tesco, said:
“We are recruiting 26,000 festive colleagues to help give our customers a Christmas to remember. We’re looking for people who enjoy working as part of a team and are prepared to go that extra mile.”
She highlighted the new roles offer flexible shifts, ranging from daytime to night hours, covering everything from checkout duties to restocking and fulfilling online orders.

Flexible Roles Across the UK
Tesco is offering part-time, temporary positions across Great Britain, Northern Ireland, and the Isle of Man. With various shift patterns, the company aims to provide flexibility to suit different lifestyles and needs.
Brown also noted that Tesco is welcoming back former employees who took on seasonal roles last year, saying they received a fantastic response in previous years.
Career Clinics for Additional Support
In addition to traditional recruitment channels, Tesco is offering an initiative to help job seekers. Throughout November, the company will host Career Clinics across the UK. These clinics aim to address key barriers to employment, such as:
- Lack of skills
- Low confidence
- Insufficient support in recruitment
Anyone who attends a Career Clinic will have the opportunity to interview for a festive role on the spot.
Opportunities for Permanent Positions
Once the festive season concludes, Tesco will encourage seasonal workers to apply for any permanent positions that become available. This could offer a long-term employment opportunity for those who find the role a good fit.
Success Story: Jay Styles
Jay Styles, who works at Tesco’s Hednesford store in Cannock Chase, Staffordshire, began as a seasonal worker and is a prime example of how a temporary role can lead to something more permanent.
Jay, who has Autism, shared how his confidence has grown since working at Tesco:
“Growing up with Autism, I found socialising really difficult and suffered from low self-esteem. Since joining Tesco, my confidence has grown, and I enjoy serving customers and making friends with colleagues. I was made permanent after my role as a Christmas festive colleague and received great feedback from customers.”
