Evri is planning to hire 9,000 new staff to meet the increasing demand for parcel deliveries.

The company is expanding its workforce in preparation for a busy period following its acquisition by Apollo Global Management in a deal worth £2.7 billion.

The recruitment effort will focus on key areas such as Scotland, Bury St Edmunds, Plymouth, and Gatwick, targeting couriers and warehouse staff.

The expansion will bring the company’s workforce to around 28,000 couriers, preparing them to handle up to four million parcels on peak days.

Evri reported parcel volumes have now surpassed the levels seen during the pandemic.

It is driven by the growth in online shopping from high street retailers and emerging businesses, as well as second-hand platforms.

In recent years, the company has faced criticism for customer service issues, including slow and missing deliveries.

However, it has since invested millions in improving service quality, achieving a 99 percent on-time delivery rate.

Martijn De Lange, CEO of Evri, said: “New client wins and increased parcel volumes are proof of the trust customers have in our service and biggest-ever recruitment drive promises to deliver another record year.”

The hiring spree includes roughly 8,000 new couriers and 1,000 warehouse and support roles.

According to Evri, couriers typically earn around £16.50 per hour.
