News Corp. And OpenAI Agree To License Content For ChatGPT

The flag of News Corp

OpenAI and News Corp. have announced a “multi-year global partnership” to enhance ChatGPT's capabilities using the news outlet’s extensive journalistic content.

This collaboration will grant OpenAI access to current and archived articles from News Corp.’s renowned outlets.

Those include The Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch, Barron’s, and The New York Post.

The agreement allows OpenAI to integrate News Corp. content directly into ChatGPT’s responses, providing users with enriched, reliable information.

OpenAI will use this content to refine and improve its AI models, improving its overall performance and accuracy.

Robert Thomson, CEO of News Corp., said: “We believe a historic agreement will set new standards for veracity, for virtue and for value in the digital age.

News Corp. will offer its journalistic expertise to ensure OpenAI’s offerings maintain the highest standards of journalism.

This announcement follows Reddit’s recent decision to collaborate with OpenAI, which will allow AI developers to train their models using Reddit’s Data API.

This partnership will enable OpenAI to access real-time, structured content from Reddit, which will, in turn, be utilized to enhance ChatGPT’s functionalities.

Reddit will introduce certain AI features for users and moderators powered by OpenAI.

In February, Google also announced a similar partnership with Reddit, granting access to Reddit content to train its AI models like Gemini via the platform’s API.

OpenAI continues to expand its AI capabilities, recently launching a new AI model and desktop version of ChatGPT.

The latest update, which includes GPT-4, promises faster performance and improved text, video, and audio capabilities.

The company has indicated plans to incorporate video chat features into ChatGPT, further broadening the utility and accessibility of its AI technology.
